We are looking for a Fire Sprinkler Sales/Estimator with a “Hunter Mentality” to join our team of nearly 100 professionals. We are a family owned business, started in 1952, committed to the fire safety field.

Job Responsibilities:
• Estimating and Quoting Fire Sprinkler Systems for institutional, industrial and commercial facilities
• Developing working relationships with our current customer base as well as with new customers interested in
purchasing design, fabrication and installation of fire sprinkler systems
• Establishing contact with prospective customers of new construction and service contracts through marketing,
scheduling service calls and following up on leads
• Representing City Fire and developing relationships with the main objective of negotiating, reviewing and
executing price and terms of agreement
• Participate in pre-bid, pre-construction, post-project and weekly progress meetings
• Read and comprehend plans and specifications
• Preparing detailed cost estimates including design, fabrication, permits, subcontracts, equipment and
installation labor
• Have a working knowledge of all local and national codes, specifications and guidelines set forth by authorities
having jurisdiction
• Meet productivity and time line goals
•Close sufficient sales to exceed sales plan objectives

Qualifications:
• 5+ years Sales experience in Fire Sprinkler System sales
• NICET certification and/or a strong commitment to gain certification
• Knowledge of NFPA 13, 13R and 13D
• Strong knowledge of local and national building codes
• Valid Driver’s License
• Proven ability to work independently while also being a team player
• Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a generous base salary, plus incentives. A
vehicle, laptop and phone are also provided. Health care for the employee and family members and a 401k are
also available.

Job Duties:
• Receive and put away all stock and special orders.
• Order parts from vendors
• Possess basic computer skills.
• Issue parts to technicians
• Work with technicians to help them get their parts
• Operate forklift (can be taught)
• Pick up and deliver material. (using company vehicle)
• Act as warehouse manager in his absence.
• Knowledge of all parts in the warehouse inventory.
• Straighten up wherever needed.

Electrical Foreperson

City Fire Equipment Company, a leader in fire protection in the State of New Jersey is seeking an electrical foreperson to work with our electrical/alarm team in our electrical division, City Fire Electric.

The ideal candidate will be in charge of large and complex commercial projects overseeing our electrical team.  This candidate will be responsible for providing on-site direction and leadership for our workers in order to complete jobs within specific guidelines that include quality standards, time requirements and budget consideration.

Additional responsibilities will include working with the sales team, job planning, customer relations, material management and quality control.  Also included may be employee training and overseeing our apprentice program.

Job Duties

  • Train new employees
  • Supervise apprentice program
  • Work with sales team
  • Attend job meetings
  • Organize, plan and oversee all commercial electrical projects
  • Direct electrical work
  • Inspect installations for quality
  • Assure that code standards are met
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA guidelines
  • Document actions, testing results, observations and final diagnosis of electrical jobs
  • Maintain equipment to ensure it can be operated safely

Job Skills and Qualifications

  • Valid Electrical License or Completion of Electrical Apprenticeship
  • Proficiency with the National Electrical Code and local codes
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to work with team members in planning, operating and completing jobs
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • At least 5 years as an electrical foreperson or journeyperson

Fire Sprinkler Fitter
Compensation Commensurate with Experience

City Fire Equipment Company is looking for a fire sprinkler fitter.  The candidate will be able to install, test, inspect and certify fire sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA 13, NFPA 13R and NFPA 13D.

Duties include:

  • Measuring and cutting steel and plastic pipes for installation using blueprints and local building codes
  • Attaching fire sprinkler heads and fitting to pipes to ensure pipe systems are free of leaks
  • Ability to study and read blueprints in order to decide fitting of the fire sprinkler system
  • Must employ safety measures while installing fire sprinkler systems
  • Must ensure that each job is done with high precision
  • Must document all details of the job properly

Skills Include:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Understanding of complex blueprints and solid written and verbal skills
  • Familiarity with the national fire codes
  • Thorough knowledge of fire sprinkler systems and the necessary tools
  • Ability to work in a wide variety of conditions, including heights up to 30 feet or more and also be able to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Experience in lift operations and OSHA guidelines

  • Minimum 5+ years of rough to finish electrical field experience.
  • Ability to work independently with limited site supervision and as part of a team.

Essential Duties, Knowledge, & Responsibilities:

  • Receives wiring diagrams, specifications, and instructions to the work to be done on any scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection.
  • Analyzes all types of drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and install circuits and equipment
  • Has the ability to determine material or replacement needs for a job
  •  select a logical approach to "trouble shooting" and repair problems. 
  • Plans details of working procedure to effect the most logical approach to the job. 
  • Considers all safety precautions and proper isolation of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations. 
  • Determines the necessary tools and materials required for the job. 
  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical principles, wiring specification Codes, properties of various materials and principles of operation and application of equipment. 
  • Locates sources of trouble of any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation. 
  • Dismantles, inspects, repairs, adjusts, or replaces faulty parts and wiring on motors, generators, power distribution and control panels, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic devices, etc. 
  • Reassembles, tests, and adjusts equipment for safe and proper operation. 
  • Performs work on "hot lines" as required. 
  • Replaces coils, resistors, rheostats, relays, etc. 
  • Adjusts contacts, relays, bus rigging, etc. 
  • Reconnects terminal leads, panel boards, and distribution feeders.  In emergencies, shunts out defective coils in order to get equipment back in operation. 
  • Changes DC motor characteristics by shunting series coils, etc. 
  • Installs conduit, fittings, switches, controls, fixtures, wires, ect.
  • Connects all types of electrical equipment as required for new installation or replacement of facilities. 
  • Makes all required splices and connector joints. 
  • Adjusts all new equipment for proper operating characteristics.

Fire Alarm Technician
Location: East Hanover, NJ
Job Type: Full Time Employee
Experience: At least 2 years experience with Fire Alarm systems
Description: City Fire Equipment Company of East Hanover NJ is seeking an experienced fire alarm technician with demonstrated service and troubleshooting skills. This technician must be able to install, inspect, service and repair various types of fire alarm systems. Also essential are the ability to analyze fire alarm drawings, diagnose causes of electrical problems and install various system components, such as panels, pull stations, detectors, etc. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, all types of fire protection equipment is a plus. This includes wet and dry chemical systems, FM 200 systems, fire extinguishers and exit/emergency lights. NICET II certification is also a plus. 

Training, Experience & Qualifications: 

  • Customer service oriented; interpersonal skills
  • Dependable and motivated.
  • Physical functions including the ability to lift 40 pounds, kneel, crawl, climb and crouch
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Operate equipment and tools used in the installation, repair and maintenance of fire alarm systems
  • Must be able to work under limited supervision, yet be able to relate to the team.
  • Able to respond to emergency calls after hours.

Electrician/Fire Alarm Installer
Location: East Hanover, NJ
Job Type: Full Time Employee
Experience: 2+ to 5 Years
Education Level: High School or Equivalent
Description: Install and maintain electrical equipment for fire alarm systems.

Duties: 

  • Knowledge of electrical work including low voltage electrical work.
  • Experience with pipe bending.
  • Experience in running wire.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specs, building plans, wiring diagrams, manuals and system schematics.
  • Knowledge of test devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters and ammeters.

Skills and Qualifications:
Low voltage electrical experience, technical understanding, electronic troubleshooting and knowledge of electrical codes.
